The story behind Planty (and why we built it)
Where it all started
Joe's journey into food began in 2012, at Taste of London. On a leap of confidence, he introduced himself to one of Gordon Ramsay's team and asked for a job.
That decision took him into Gordon Ramsay's kitchens across London, and eventually into the Michelin-starred restaurant, where Joe built the foundations of his craft as a chef. From there, his career moved quickly. He went on to become the youngest Head Chef in a major corporate catering group, leading teams at some of London's most prestigious events and cooking for thousands of people every day. But the pace came at a cost.
Joe re-thinks food
Relentless hours and poor food choices became the norm. Meals were rushed, irregular, and often ultra-processed just to keep going. Eventually, it caught up with him. Joe suffered a serious health scare that forced him to stop and rethink how he was fuelling his body.
He began shifting towards nutrient-dense, whole, plant-based food. Over time, the difference was clear. Energy improved, recovery felt easier, and returning to the sports he loved, from marathons and football to HYROX, became far more manageable.
That experience changed how Joe thought about food. Not just as fuel for work, but as the foundation for long-term health.
That's where the idea for Planty began.
There had to be a better way to eat well!
Over the next few years, Joe spent his time learning, testing, and talking food with other chefs. One thing became obvious. In the UK, plant-based meals were often expensive, bland, or both. Many supermarket options relied heavily on water, starches, and thickeners, rather than real, nourishing ingredients.
So Joe asked a different question. What if proper chef experience could be used to create healthy, plant-based meals that were genuinely delicious, filling, and easy to fit into everyday life?
The goal wasn't to make food for a niche audience. It was to make nutritious, satisfying meals that worked for busy people, without needing loads of time, specialist skills, or a big budget.
Planty is born
In 2019, that idea became Planty. Joe and his chef friends pulled together the first menu, focused on flavour, nutrition, and balance, and sent out the very first Planty box from the kitchen.
The mission was simple then, and it still is now. Make eating easier, without compromising on taste, nutrition, or values.
How we built Planty for better eating
Everything we make is plant-based by design, using fruit, vegetables, grains and other whole foods, because it's one of the most effective ways to deliver nutritious, filling meals with less impact overall, and we deliver them across the UK.

What you see is what you get: no artificial ingredients and no unnecessary fillers. We use whole-food swaps like prune purée and pineapple instead of refined sugar, even when it costs more.
